Top Video Vixens Of Yesterday07.06.09

Vida_Guerra800

Remember back in the late 90s early 2000s when people would watch BET all day for the videos and hip hop culture? If you are like me then you do. I had my favorite video girl, from Gloria Velez in Big Pimping to Melyssa Ford (I didn’t add either of them to my list because they’re still hot to me) in every other video that came on. I would buy my copies of XXL & King just to see the eye candy. So to honor the good ole days I decided to post my favorite video vixens of yesterday.

Larry Davis10.24.08

BET’s American Gangsta just did a great story on Larry Davis. I watched it since I rarely turn the TV and the BET awards was on. It was a very gripping tale if you have the chance to check it out, please do.

“A little over 20 years ago, I became aware of the Larry Davis story, as an investigative reporter for the Village Voice in New York. His story was like some kind of action movie, complete with a shoot out with the cops, a month-long manhunt, and his capture in the South Bronx, which police helicopters, an array of police tanks, and a squadron of what looked like 150 police officers. Nuts. But the twist to this action story became a thriller, when Larry told the media the cops were looking to kill him because he was about to make it public knowledge he was selling drugs for a group of rogue cops. Initially, I didn’t believe him but after doing some interviews with some of his friends, people in the neighborhood, and even a few police officers who didn’t want to go on the record, I don’t think he made that story up. I believed him. And so did a Bronx jury that acquitted him in the shootout with the cops on November 19th, 1996, and the murder of 4 drug dealers on March 3, 1988,” HHDX

The Care Free Curl is Back07.02.08

They say that fashion and style just keeps repeating itself, well they couldn’t be more right. From this years BET Awards and the premiere of Hancock it looks like the Jheri curl is back. How does one go from nappy boy locks to the glistening curl? I’m not sure, but if you ever see AJ formerly of 106th and Park ask him. He was recently seen rocking the curl with the messed up edges at the Negro awards. (more…)

The Boondocks Vs. BET06.04.08

If you’ve been reading my blogs for a while then you’ve already seen The Boondocks Hunger Strike and Uncle Ruckus Reality Show Now as the reality show is set to be release to DVD and the 2 episodes are set to go on sale the story of why thete were banned is coming to light. The LA Times are reporting that

When BET executives learned of the shows, they complained to Turner-owned Cartoon Networks and Sony Pictures Television, which produces “The Boondocks,” and urged that they be blocked from broadcast, according to sources close to the program who requested anonymity for fear of network reprisal.

Initially, Cartoon Network resisted, but when legal action was threatened, the episodes, written by McGruder and co-executive producer Rodney Barnes, were yanked, according to sources

Aaron Mcgruder the creator of The Boondocks says on the DVD “I was looking for changes and improvements, and I didn’t see any, I didn’t see them. So I said, OK, it’s fair game. It’s hard not to address it. It really was an important part of the strip.”

So let me get this right Aaron, you protect the image of black people by destroying the image of the black people responsible for the destruction of all black people. Make perfect sense to me.
