This is a wallpaper image I made over the weekend for your desktop. In the picture you see Obama hugging his daughters with a bit of pop art style. I made it because I miss my little girls and when I’m around them I feel like I have the whole world in my hands. I actually cut Michelle Obama out of the picture not because I don’t like her or anything but simply because Father’s day is coming up. Enjoy.

On June 21, 1949 in St. Louis MO, a bunch of black youths went for the first swim in a newly integrated pool. No violence happened to the children while they were swam but as they cooled off from the hot summer’s sun a MOB of whites gathered around the gates of the pool. Upon the blacks exit, the Fairground Riots began.

In 1949 there were 9 pools in St. Louis, 3 Indoor pools for Negro’s 4 for whites and another 2 outdoor pools for whites only. Until a reporter asked the city’s welfare director, John J. O’Toole, “whether Negroes could be allowed to swim in all the city’s public pools,” as “there was no law saying they couldn’t.” O’Toole replied: “If the colored people apply for admittance, my order is to admit them. I am not going to be a party to an unlawful gentleman’s agreement.” He used the phrase, gentleman’s agreement, to describe the tradition of segregation that the commissioner seemed to endorse.

When the Black children arrived at the pool that morning the whites entered the locker room and turned back around. That’s how the Mob of angry whites grew outside of the pool. They shouted racial slurs and made threats. After the pool closed the police had to come and escort the black children home. But Time Magazine reported

. . . all that afternoon, fist fights blazed up; Negro boys were chased and beaten by white gangs. In the gathering dusk, one grown-up rabble-rouser spoke out. “Want to know how to take care of those niggers?” he shouted. “Get bricks. Smash their
heads. . . .”

The crowd cornered two terror-stricken Negro boys against a fence. Under a volley of fists, clubs and stones, the boys went down—but not before one of them had whipped out a knife and stabbed one of his attackers. In the surge of fury the nearest whites kicked and pummeled the two prostrate bodies, turned angrily on rescuing police with shouts of “nigger-lover.”

The story of these riots goes on to lead to ten African Americans and five whites had been hospitalized. But it’s stories like this and many more like it, filled with hate, pride, and strength that Americans have over come. Yet many are still wading through this hate. Obama’s candidacy is one of the final steps we have to take to help heal America’s old wounds.

I have been invited to a bachelorette party *yawn* for my cousin. Nothing thrills my heart anymore than spending an evening in a dusty room that smells of badussy, chicken fingers and bottom-shelf rum&cokes while watching some menz gyrate about in their draws. *Stone-faced* Seriously, I don’t know if men know it, (or care) but male strippers are not the business.

I have found most of the time they are either gay or whoreish or both. Don’t get me wrong, female strippers have the extra sheen of jizz dirt on them also, but the male version just seems worse to me. All mixed with testosterone, S-Curl juice, and AXE deodorant. I.Just.Can’t. Don’t get it wrong, I LOVE men, in all their nekkidness, but that whole rub it on my thigh and I slip a fiver in your thong just doesn’t do it for me.

The website Zazzle via Toiletees have a whole page devouted to anti Obama Shirts. This one in particular is super offensive with Obama’s face on Tupac’s body with an Uzi pointed at him. Why don’t people understand that you can not joke like this. The other shirts which poke fun at him using cocaine fine fair game. But all presidents used drugs before. But this one is entirely too far. Other shirts which says there goes the neighborhood just use racial stereotypes to drive a wedge into race relations and doesn’t help the advancement of this nation. I just got off the phone with the company who basically told me that there was nothing they can do about the issue. Regardless of how offensive it may be.

Let’s face it In Urban America we steal in order to get by. No, we don’t rob banks or commit B&E’s [break in & Entry's] We still little stuff. So I’ve compiled a list of things Urbanites steal the most.

• Cable – We all know someone who has the box, got the hook up or know a guy who knows a guy that work for the cable company and knows how to steal cable. I know a lot of people were grateful that the wire started coming on BET the best free channel in the world.
• Kool-Aid – Whether it’s putting it under the pile of circulars at the bottom of your cart [or buggy depending on your geographical location] or if you just pocket a handful of kool-aid most people have or do take them. Grape or Red is the main question to ponder before committing this theft.
• Rent to Own – This is the Urbanites oldest hustle, Renting an item and moving a month after the merchandise is delivered. I have relatives who have furnished their whole apt from Rent-A-Center & Aaron’s. So next time you walk into an Urban apt and wonder why it looks like cribs on a retail salary wonder if they’ve visited R.A.C.
• Clothing – Hey girl let me borrow that shirt/dress/or shoes!! The lender knows in the back of their mind that they are never going to get those new shoes back. They know that Quisha has been plotting to borrow those since the day you bought them. Joell Ortiz reps for the dudes in one of his songs when he raps about borrowing his boys shirt in Brooklyn You don’t want that back!!!
• Your Love – The most stolen thing in the hood is… You guessed it, SEX. There is a common knowledge in Urban America that everybody sleeps with everybody. So best believe someone is going to try to sleep w/ your girlfriend/boyfriend. Chances are you know your bf/gf ex and you all probably had class together. This is the exact meaning of small world. My best friend was with my high school sweetheart before I was… Its just a part of life.

What Have You Stolen?

Every once in a while you come across a spirit that is simply fantastic and well Jurnee Smollett is that. The young actress “announced her intentions of working with Wiley College officials to establish a $2 million scholarship fund in honor of Henrietta Bell Wells, the woman behind her “Great Debaters” character.” With all the troubles of child actors it amazing that she still wants to change the world.

In an emotionally charged address, Ms. Smollett vowed that the scholarship fund would “put young girls through college” and help diminish the negative stereotypes and images of black women as depicted by the media, which she feels are sensationalized.

She also writes about her up coming endeavors on her myspace blog. “This project demands me to explore gifts that lie inside of me, bringing me joy that I rarely share with anyone… Well we are glad you have decided to share it with us.
