Where Are All The Beautiful Dark Skinned Women?

Being a dark skinned woman must be really hard. I mean when I look at a movie, or watch videos, or flip through a magazine, I can’t help but ask myself, where are all the beautiful dark skinned women? I mean I’m sure they exist, but I only see average, far from sexy dark skinned women on TV shows. I wonder why? I know a bunch of beautiful dark skinned women, my friend Aziza for instance is drop dead gorgeous, but I can’t think of one representation of her in the media. I also can’t help but think of the times when I’m at the bar and I see all the men flock to the light skinned women over the dark skinned women, even though on most cases the darker women will look better. Why are people so color struck? Is this the reason why many dark skinned women have a color complex?

We are fed an image of beauty, and I can’t help but believe it messes with the mind of dark skinned women all over the world. An example would be the amount of women who get mad when I post a light skinned model, or give a complement to a white woman on my blog. I cant’ say that I blame them, for getting upset. Everywhere you look light skinned is being presented as sexy, while dark skinned is the homely type. In most cases the token black chick is the typical light skinned board.

I can only imagine how this affects their dating habits. When guys say, you’re cute for a dark skinned girl; it must bother them, deep down in their soul. I once made a joke while in bed with a dark skinned woman. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was spring break in Florida, I was asked to go home w/ a 2 Live Crew dancer and another chick I’ve been boo’d up with all night. Instead of going to “OrgyVille” I chickened out and ended up going home with this girl I’ve been flirting with the whole semester at college. She was tall, had a body to die for and dark like you closed your eyes and went to sleep. We both knew what was about to go down, we ran back to my hotel room, hopped in bed, and began kissing.

Before I knew it I had her shirt up, sucking on her beautiful breast. I had been waiting for this for a long time, I moved down to her belly button, unzipped her pants and pulled them off. She had on bright yellow panties. I kissed her inner thigh. It was obvious my sexual intellectual hadn’t quite developed yet, because something my mind said make a joke. So I kissed her through her panties to tease her, then looked up and said “You’re black as hell.”

She unleashed a whole bunch of curses and stuff that would make the devil blush, but all I heard was “I can’t believe you!” She got up quicker than a fat kid getting plate two at a buffet and put on her clothes and walked out the door. I couldn’t understand why she left, I just broke up with a girl darker than her and all we did was crack jokes on each other all the time so it felt natural. I tried to explain that to her but she wasn’t trying to hear it, and I still think she hates me to this day.

Many years later, I think I understand, Is it society’s big push of light skinned beauty which leaves dark skinned women feeling less than the queens they are. I wonder has the ignorance of others help dark skinned women develop of color complex and why can’t we find more sexy dark women?

I’m not trying to offend, just point out that dark women are just as beautiful as any other type of woman. We need to show them more.
