Ne-Yo Tells Aspiring Singer “You Need To Lose Weight”

Posted in Music on Jun 23, 2009

I spotted this on Necole Bitchie’s site and it caught my attention because the headline kinda hinted that all hell was about to break lose, but it didn’t. In the video you will find Ne-Yo in conversation with an aspiring singer, and he keeps it 100! No bullshit, no sugarcoating, simply;

You might need to lose some pounds. It depends on the type of music you want to do. If you want to go the Jill Scott route do what you want to do because there is freedom in that lane, but if you want to stand on the same stage as Beyonce, if you haven’t won an Oscar first, it isn’t gonna happen. And by that I mean Jennifer Hudson. Jennifer Hudson is a big girl. She won an Oscar and then she went and stood on the same stage as Beyonce.

Rarely do you find an artist being real on camera, and I respect Ne-Yo for that, and he isn’t saying anything wrong! Homegirl can actually sing, and judging from her acapella singing in this video I would listen to her music.

What do you think of what Ne-Yo has to say in this video?

    there was absolutely nothing wrong with what Ne-Yo said.
    if anything it was encouraging.
    he was honest and told her what she needed to hear from someone
    in his lane.

    What Ne-Yo said was true and it is one of the major flaws in the music biz. They would rather put a bombshell who can't hit a note; slap some auto-tune on her and put out an album(I see you Cassie!!). lol Just going off talent, the young lady has what it takes; but her look isn't marketable. This isn't new, C&C Music Factory had Martha Walsh do all the singing on the album but put a slim pretty girl in the foreground.
