Every now and then I like to post some real sh*t on my blog, other than just sex and music. Now seems like the perfect time. On his latest blog for Global Grind Nas asked What if the Binghamton shootings happened in the hood?

Good question. Click here to check out Nas Blog

On some real shit, i think if that Binghamton shooting happened in the hood the media would try to soften the story with this is a tragedy and i can't believe this happen these young kids, who went to school did everything right, and obeyed everything their mother told him... THEN they would try hit us with the BUT in this neighborhood, shit like this always happens, Jose and Tyrone be wylding out, they was local drug dealers who got laid off from the boss and just decided to take it out on the drug addicts.. Next on the ten oclock news Ray J got Danger pregnant....
    Thats what i thik!

I still think it would have received national coverage, but the news would probably include the neighborhood's crime/poverty/immigration rates, etc. with cause/effect comparisons. Like this shit is supposed to happen in the inner city, only it never does.

My biggest gripe with the coverage is how the ticker on CNN reported a shooting in NY, not Binghamton. It took me a few minutes to realize it happened upstate and not down the block. If it were in NYC, there would have been no ambiguity.

If those shooting had happened in any ghetto in Baltimore...we would have only found through word of mouth. Media coverage would have been minimal at best and it wouldnt have received any national coverage. Shit pisses me off really.
