Comments on: Do You Know A “Midnight”

Im confused about the question: are you asking if I know a Midnight, a person I love but dont know anything about? or do I know a Midnight, a person of his character and/or physique? In any case, I know niether.
I just picked up the book Sunday, and already Im like Nah. Dont get me wrong; she writes him as a smart, focused young man, but he rags on America, particularly Black Americans, a bit too much for me. Im not from Brooklyn and I've never been, but given the discription of the place in the book, hell, Im too afraid to go! LOL! Reading it though, as an American, I felt so shitted on. Remembering its a character, Im wondering what Sista Soulja's angle was. We have alot a problems as a people, and there was alot of truth to what she was writing about but the comparisons between America and Africa were stark and I felt like she wanted her readers to not only do a self-examination but to also hop on the nearest boat and head for the motherland! I liked the Coldest Winter Ever and I continue to be a fan, but this book, Im just not sure.

Reading the book, Midnight sounds cool as a friend but not as my man, as another poster said I'm too Americanized. Another thing is why is this being billed as the sequel when in Coldist Winter, Midnight was in jail at 14, he shot a man for molesting his sister and his mother died while he was in jail. The story is fine once you realize you aren't going to be catching up on Winter and that crowd.

I loved The Coldest Winter Ever…hated Midnight (the book)

Some aspects of his personality is very attractive, his whole view “I have to have an untouched Virgin Mary” is unrealistic nowadays. And I couldn't understand for the life of me why the hell he would want to talk to someone who doesn't even speak his same language.

After reading the excerpt from the book…I can't say that I have meet a midnight. I am way too Americanized for a man like Midnight.

I've been involved with a “midnight”, kind of. He was the love of my life at that time and he dropped so much science and knowledge. The God fed me constantly. We traveled often and far. He'd buy me books and we would meditate together. He helped me to see the best me that I am and I will forever be grateful for him.It was beautiful. Black love at it's best. And he and I are still 100. We burn and grab a bite to eat from time to time.

First, Coldest WInter Ever = my favorite book of all time.

The idea of a “Midnight” is a cool one, but not for me. Plus with the way the character is brought up, beliefs, religion etc….He would NOT be my type.
