There was never any doubt in my mind that America would have a Black President in my lifetime. I knew it from when I first heard Obama speak during the 2004 DNC. I said to myself he’s going to be the next president of the United States of America. Although at that time I didn’t know much about the skinny kid with the funny name, but I did know that his message was strong enough to move me and others like me. There is a tremendous sense of pride in my soul that I know is shared with Americans all over the world.

4 years ago when Kerry loss, I told people we would be okay if Barack was to run for the white house. He continuously said he would not run, but once he decided to run for president I knew he would win. I had arguments/debates with my friends who would say America is not ready for a black president, to which I would reply, America wasn’t ready for MLK to recite the I Have a Dream speech, but it happened. I would say that America wasn’t ready for slavery to end but it happened, I would say America wasn’t ready for that idiot Bush to be president… But it happened.

I knew Obama would be achieve his goal, because America is never ready for anything, but it always happens. Take a look at history and each time America is caught off guard we always end up better. This is because America is resilence. America is strong and America is the greatest country in the world.

Last night at 10:45 pm eastern when Iowa was called for Obama, I told the group in 15 minutes we would have our first black president. I was live blogging the results in a room full of people I did not know. They looked at me crazy, I knew that Obama had all the electoral votes he needed and I knew California would be for Obama as soon as the polls closed giving him the 270 he needed. So at 11 pm est when the polls closed the room erupted at CNN stated they projected Obama as the president.

Please remember that your co-worker with the McCain-Palin sticker on their car is not racist because they didn’t vote on the site of history. We can not take this time to divide or to be bad losers. The bar for Black America has been raised and we must now live up to this expectation.

We can no longer blame the man, we can no longer blame anything other then our self. Hold your self accountable and the world will be a better place.

Although he did not run a campaign based on race it meant so much for him to acknowledge how far we've come as a people. As Americans we are poised to regain a respectable position of power and stature so I am just swelling with anticipation and pride. We've made an example of ourselves on a world stage that there is beauty in Democracy.

I totally believe this was destined by GOD. Throughout all that our people have been through, this is a mind blowing feeling. Last night I cried like a baby because I honestly never thought in my lifetime I would see this day come. For years people made jokes that if a black man ever becomes president he will paint the white house black and have bbq's on the lawn. Well all I know is there will be a basketball court. Making our mark. There is a long road ahead still, so we need to stick behind our president and his family.

Well said Xilla! I felt history was about to happen months before the DNC and yesterday I felt the need to have a history lesson with my son and take him to the king center so we could reflect. We both got emotional at the videos that they showed. I think he now truly knows what we have come from and where we can go with determination.
  • yea i'm going to bring my girl to the inauguration. We hit the king center when she was here this summer she was so excited it made me proud.

i cant even believe how much i cried, hearing the speech, hearing incredible stories from many people young and old. being apart of history feels great, and im so appreciative for it. i excited for the day when i will tell my kids i voted, and witnessed history. america has spoken, & i am so proud to be an american and even more proud to be an african american. even thrilled to see people of all races comming together and voting for change. from here we can only go up. no more excuses. as a race anything was possible before, last night just confirmed it.
  • his speech last night was amazing wasn't it? It was unifying and no divisive like we were used to hearing for the last 8 years.

I honestly hope that this will make black men realize that anything can happen. No longer blaming the White man and being accountable for their own actions. This should make our men feel proud and handle their business.

Well said! I was in agreement with PRESIDENT OBAMA when he said that we as a people need to have ACCOUNTABILITY! For ourselves and our actions! The day has come and you can MAKE EXCUSES or you can MAKE IT HAPPEN!! OBAMA 08'
  • This moment is just AMAZING!! It's so surreal!! It took me a moment for it to register but I'm so happy. I couldn't look at a paper on the train this morning w/o my eyes watering and smiling.

I never thought that I would live to see the day the United States elected a black preisdent. I am truely thankful to God that not only did I, but that my 92 year old Grandfather and 80 and 78 year old Grandmother's did too! I have such an amazing sense of pride knowing that my president looks just like me and so many other people in this country. And honestly, whether he was black, blue, green, yellow, red....it doesn't matter. It was time for a change and it just so happened that that change came wrapped in a nice brown package. I've never been more proud to be an American!

It's been extremely surreal for me as I am in Romania right now so I didn't get to share this with my people in the U.S.A, I've been able to see the effect of his campaign abroad and just the fact that this Black man has such a world wide following (and is not an athlete) was already blowing me away. To watch him win the presidency, I have no words. I'm 39 years old and I NEVER thought in y lifetime I would see a Black President. Times are indeed changing. Now it's time to do the really hard work, because these next few years rebounding from the Bushit are not going to be easy.
