But if there is a 'shortage' of quality black men then surely something needs to be done about the way we bring up our men in relation to women.

I think that we should date within our race. We (black women) are already facing a quality man shortage. We don't need to lose the few we have left to interracial dating. Other races have their own men....duh leave "ours" alone..

I can't believe nobody commented on this. I am a white woman and I date a black man, we met in college. I do not feel like he parades me around like a trophy because of my race, nor am I fucking him to get half the light bill paid. I'm not sure we ever actually discussed the fact that were are of different races, yet we have been together for almost four years. Of course we get the stereotyping like: She's with a black dude so she's easy, He's with a white girl so he must not be able to handle a black woman, family members on both sides thinkin we shouldn't "mix races", and so on. But I don't mind other people opposing my decision because I can't let someone else's ignorance get in the way of love. I love my man and that's that.

I believe in love. Love has no color, what I do have issues with is people that say:
I only date white women because black women are too independent.
I'm done with black men because they can't be trusted.

Just because you have some fucked up baggage you don't need to take it out on all black women/men.

As far as these black athletes and entertainers, if they were regular brothers in the hood these white women wouldn't give them the time of day. At the same time isn't it ironic that you rarely see a professional male white athlete and entertainer dating a black woman? That's like Tom Cruise or David Beckham marrying a white woman...NOT, but Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant I don't need to go on it's the norm.Just like it's the norm for white men in Hollywood to wife up a chick 20 years younger.

Black on black dating will never die, but I see a lot of sisters like myself that are or considering trying something new, but the love for the brothers will never go away.

First of all I must say that Reggie looks like a complete idiot on that picture with a hoe. Someone that literally has a sex tape going around making a fool of our fine black men.

What a disgrace!

Now to comment on black men dating outside the race. My problem comes in the fact that they are supposed to be our (black women) leaders. Our race alone has been used and oppressed for so long and it is still going on. All the while our kings are turning a blind eye all because of what the white man puts in his face. It is amazing to see just how outsourced they are making us beautiful black women.

I CHALLENGE EVERYONE ON HERE TO PAY ATTENTION TO EVERY THING YOU WATCH ON TV, MOVIES, ETC. HOW MANY BLACK WOMEN WILL YOU SEE WITH SPEAKING ROLES AT LEAST! AND I GUARANTEE YOU WILL SEE AT LEAST ONE BLACK MAN!

So why can't our kings speak up instead of thinking that every other race is so much more appealing just because it's what the white man puts in our face. I have 3 Beautiful Black Daughters and 1 Son. My girls never get to see someone that looks like them on anything, hell not even Disney channel.

You people really sit here with the "you should be able to date who you want crap" All the while WE ARE BEING GIVEN THE SHAFT!!!!!!! YEAH IT'S 2008 AND THERE ARE A LOT OF BEAUTIFUL BLACK WOMEN OUT THERE TO TAKE UP THAT SCREEN AS WELL.

WHY IN WILL SMITH'S LAST 3 MOVIES WAS HIS CO-STAR/LOVE INTEREST A WHITE GIRL? He makes enough to say NO! PUT SOME OF MY RACE OF WOMEN IN THERE AS WELL! HELLO!!! WAKE UP PEOPLE WE ARE BEING LEFT IN THE DUST AND ONE DAY WIPED OUT. WE NEED TO COME TOGETHER AND NOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN. I AM MAKING IT MY PERSONAL QUEST SO BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR THE NEXT MOVEMENT!

I wonder what the numbers of black interracial couples out there are? Have they become a majority or something and I didn't get the memo?

If a person wants to date outside their own, more power to them...my issue comes when the justification involves slander and flat out lying about your reasons for dating someone who isn't the same color as you.

I am an educated, well-rounded, attractive BLACK WOMAN. It kills me to see all these brothas make excuses about not finding "the upscale black woman that's on their level." Statistically, there are more black women enrolled in college, and they graduate at a higher rate as well. I have never dated outside my race. I always wanted to preserve the black family. Why, b.c I came from a two parent h/h of Black Man/Woman. My parents are still married after 30+ yrs. However, I'm getting really tired of brothas coming up w. the bullish. I don't look to the "white man" for validation in my race/color/sexuality and I'm not going to start now. However, Black Men, need to stand up and take care of their responsibilities. Black Women need to stop making it easy for brothas to walk over and out. I have never had a child, but I'll be damn if Imma let a brotha knock me up w. a litter of children w/o marrying me and being responsible. I woman can only treat you like a King if you carry yourself as one. Sistas remember who your are. I strongly believe that A Woman doesn't Need a Man to Breath, but you need a man to be a Father/Husband in the home. I've been lucky enough to have been raised w/both and I've seen the difference as an adult.

I've read the comments and the reasons people use to "validate" dating outside their race are funny to me and ignorant at the same time.
Not every black woman is acting like some ghetto *ss Bonquisha from the hood that doesn't know how to carry herself. Not every black woman is bitter and hatefull or a golddigger.
There are plenty of black women who know how to behave in public, who cater to their man's needs and who will have his back regardless, through thick and thin. And not every black woman is a golddigger.
But I've noticed these things will always be brought up when black men want to validate why they don't date black women. So ova it said it best when she said that you need to take a look at yourself if these are the women you attract.
If a black person genuinly falls in love with a person from another race, there is nothing wrong with that. And if that's the case, you won't need to say anything but just that to validate why you're with that person. You're with them, because you love them, and that's that. When you need to validate why you're dating outside of the race by bringing your own race down, there's something very wrong in my eyes.
