Let’s face it, Black movies have been letting us down lately. With the exception of a few, there really hasn’t been anything groundbreaking released in a long time. Black movies should be like black people. Edgy and innovative not ignorant and offensive.
This year at Sundance they have featured 2 films which have sparked my interest. A Good Day To Be Black & Sexy, and American Son
In Director Dennis Dortch’s, “A Good Day To Be Black And Sexy” Women unapologetically figure it out for themselves, reclaiming license to be selfish, rude, and raunchy in a playfully enduring tug-of-war between the sexes.
Movies are a lot like blogs, have to be ground breaking to truly kept the audience’s attention. As Danny Glover eloquently put it, “How do we use the stories we tell to represent the diversity of thought.”
